The Business Pledge

The Whatcom Watersheds Business Pledge helps Whatcom County businesses prevent pollution to their watersheds.  (click here to see our brochure-534kb). Businesses that adopt some of the pollution prevention practices we recommend receive an attractive pledge plaque to display in their store or office, recognition in local publications and access to additional incentives.

Since the program's inception in 1998, Pledge  staff have provided voluntary technical assistance to nearly 600 businesses throughout Whatcom County.  In the Spring of 2004 we surveyed Pledge businesses to see how they felt about the program, and evaluated their progress in implementing pollution prevention practices.  You can read the results on our survey page.

The Business Pledge program now offers Pledge businesses the opportunity to recertify. Additional assistance and recognition is provided to businesses that renew their commitment to protecting local watersheds.

For a list of businesses that have recently taken the Pledge or recertified within the past year please click here.

If you have a business in Whatcom County and would like to participate in the Business Pledge program, or are already a Pledge business and would like to recertify, please call Sustainable Connections at (360) 647-7093 and ask for Cathy Lehman.
